Square Enix has multiple successful IPs under their belt, including the likes of Just Cause, Tomb Raider, and many more. However, few of them compare to what the Kingdom Hearts franchise has accomplished for the studio. Kingdom Hearts III marked the twelfth installment in the series, and managed to sell over five million units in its launch week alone.

That's why the studio decided to form two new dedicated development teams for the franchise. The Japanese Kingdom Hearts Twitter account posted a “13 Questions of Darkness” Q&A, which contained quite interesting information on the franchise's future and Square Enix's plans for it as well. One of the Q&A answers outright teased an "unexpected announcement" tomorrow from the Kingdom Hearts Union χ team. Not only that, the two newly formed teams mentioned before are making a surprise announcement of their own "soon."

While a traditional Kingdom Hearts will take some time, the Kingdom Hearts Union χ team will first be making an unexpected announcement tomorrow. Furthermore, in addition to the Kingdom Hearts III and Kingdom Hearts Union χ teams, two new teams are currently at work, and one of their titles is coming surprisingly soon.

Kingdom Hearts III: Re Mind expansion releases today, and the studio said it loud and clear that there are currently no plans at all to release further expansions or Kingdom Hearts III downloadable content. This is understandable considering the new announcements Square Enix are apparently gearing up for.

We don’t have updates planned at this time, but if something comes up in the future, then we will deal with it,” the Q&A said. “As for downloadable content, Re Mind is the first and last. We’re already working on the next title. Currently, there are no concrete plans [for a Final Mix release]. If it appears on new platforms in the future, then it’s a possibility, but I’m not thinking about whether or not that will become a ‘Final Mix.'
