Yesterday, Respawn Entertainment's Jason Garza said that we were unlikely to get Titanfall 3 anytime soon. A new tweet from Respawn Entertainment, however, is fueling speculation that a Titanfall sequel may actually be in the works.

The last few years have been pretty rough for what remains of the Titanfall community. Most recently, an exploit was discovered that caused concern over the possibility of executing malicious code, but it was later revealed to only have the capability to crash Titanfall 2 game servers.

That exploit was just one of many problems that the Titanfall games have had in recent years. The "Save Titanfall" group has been running an ongoing campaign to get these legacy Respawn Entertainment games in a better state, but even they had their issues when it was alleged that former members of the group had been behind a recent wave of Titanfall 2 hacks.

Meanwhile, Respawn's focus has been on its flagship Battle Royale game Apex Legends which is currently in the midst of its 10th season (and has had some server troubles of its own lately). Now, a new tweet from Respawn is leading some to speculate that the Titanfall franchise -- long thought to be abandoned -- might not be so dead after all.

What's Going On With Titanfall 3?

The Titanfall 3 speculation started off with a question sent to Respawn Entertainment Community Coordinator Jason Garza during a livestream (as reported by Dexerto) where he effectively denied that a Titanfall sequel was in the works after a viewer asked for a comment on the franchise.

"Don’t get your hopes up, man," Garza said during the livestream (at 30:40). "I’ve said this before. We don’t have anything in [the] works. There’s nothing. There’s nothing there. We’ve got too many other games in the works right now."

Titanfall fans were used to this by now -- it's been a long time since we've heard about anything outside of Apex Legends from Respawn Entertainment. (While that game is part of the Titanfall universe, it lacks the same mech-based first-person shooter gameplay.) That all changed in the later hours of yesterday evening when Respawn appeared to address Dexerto's reporting with a rather mysterious (and unfortunately vague) tweet.

"Contrary to what some folks are reporting, Titanfall is the very core of our DNA," read the tweet from Respawn Entertainment. "Who knows what the future holds..."

That tweet kicked off a firestorm of nostalgia and speculation, ultimately resulting in Titanfall 3 trending on Twitter.

That's all we know for now, unfortunately, and we're left with many more questions than answers. Has Respawn Entertainment sneakily hinted that it's working on a Titanfall sequel? Perhaps some more Titanfall related content is coming to Apex Legends in the future?

We can't say either way for sure, but people are talking about the Titanfall franchise once again. And it should also be noted that it's been a couple of years since Apex Legends finally launched; that's plenty of time to have started work on a shiny new project, fueled in part by all of that sweet seasonal Battle Pass money.
