Streets of Rage 4 has been announced in a tweet by Dotemu, a developer/publisher with a focus on retro games.

If you're unfamiliar with this classic title, Streets of Rage is a brawler franchise released by SEGA in the '90s. This was the glorious era of gaming where the pixels were few and the plot was minimal - just jump into the game and beat the everloving heck out of the bad guys with your mighty fists. The game's trailer shows off some of the crisp new animation and a bit of gameplay:

Streets of Rage hails from a simpler time when the guys were gritty, the girls were busty, and an uppercut set your fist ablaze for some reason.

As you can see, the visual style of Streets of Rage 4 looks pretty crisp. The game's hand-drawn visuals are being handled by the team behind the remake of Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap (Our Review), another classic title that was similarly revived by Dotemu.

Dotemu will be handling publishing duties for this title with Lizardcube (developers of the Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap remake) and Guard Crush Games (developers of the similarly-styled brawler Streets of Fury) handling the development end of things. Dotemu provided some choice screenshots where you can see Streets of Rage 4's art in better detail.

For the moment, Streets of Rage 4 is still in development. We still don't have a release date, price, or knowledge of which platforms we'll be able to play on. The remake Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap is available on PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch, so we probably have a good chance of seeing this game on most (if not all) of those platforms. Hopefully, fans of classic brawler games won't have to wait too long before they can get their hands dirty!
