Streets of Rage 4 developer Dotemu has been acquired by Focus Home Interactive for €38.5 million as part of an initiative to expand its roster of game developers.

Dotemu is perhaps best known for its most recent release of Streets of Rage 4, but that's not all it has going on: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge and Windjammers 2 are both in the pipeline for a future release. Now, both of these upcoming games (and all of Dotemu's back catalog) are going to fall under the growing catalog of Focus Home Interactive's properties.

Why Focus Home Interactive Acquired Streets of Rage 4 Developer Dotemu

Focus Home Interactive acquired Streets of Rage 4 developer Dotemu as part of its continuing efforts to expand the game developers under its umbrella — and by extension, the expertise of those developers and their catalog of games.

"The arrival of Dotemu marks a key step in the acceleration of [Focus Home Interactive's] growth and the diversification of its expertise," Focus Home Interactive CEO Christophe Nobileau said in a press release. "By enriching our editorial line, we are opening up a new revenue stream and new market shares to conquer in a fast-growing sector."

The addition of Dotemu to the Focus Home Interactive group is a win/win situation for both companies. Dotemu gets some serious financial backing for its future development efforts and some help with securing licenses in the future, and Focus Home Interactive gets to benefit from Dotemu's expertise with putting new spins on classic retro franchises.

"My mission will also be to share Dotemu's expertise with Focus Home Interactive's teams, to select and convince talented teams to join the Group in order to build, together, a key player in the video game industry on a global scale," Dotemu CEO Cyrille Imbert explained.

Focus Home Interactive has acquired 77.5% of the share capital and voting rights of Dotemu for €38.5 million. Dotemu can earn a second payout of €15 million and a third payout of an undisclosed sum depending on its sales performance in the coming years. This comes on the same day that Embracer acquired 8 different companies for its portfolio, as consolidation trends continue in the gaming industry.
