If you've been using Animal Crossing: New Horizons' item duplication glitch (thanks, Polygon) to get yourself some sweet loot, your days of doing so might be numbered. Nintendo has released an update for the game that removes the glitch entirely.

Rather innocuously titled "Version 1.1.1", the update doesn't actually do a whole lot. The notes for the patch are mercifully brief; there's only one item listed on them, and it's fairly straightforward. The item simply reads "fixed a serious bug affecting game balance". That's right: literally all this patch does is remove the item duplication glitch from the game.

If you never used the item duplication glitch, here's how it worked prior to the update. The glitch required two players to pull off. One player places an item on a surface - a table, for example, but it could be any surface. Once the item has been placed, one player rotates the item over and over again while the other player goes to pick the item up. Somehow, this tricks the game into thinking the item is both on the table and in the player's inventory. It was a repeatable glitch that could, in theory, give players infinite amounts of whatever item they wanted.

All is not lost if you're still desperate to pull this off, though. This update spells the end for the glitch if you're playing online, but if you want infinite items, you can still turn off auto-updates and play Animal Crossing: New Horizons offline. After all, your online status doesn't affect the ability to play the game with two players, so if you're happy to play offline then knock yourself out. This does also mean that you won't be able to install further updates later down the line, though, until you enable online and download the update.
