Redesigned for Dragon's Dogma 2, the Sphinx makes a return with five new riddles for the Arisen to solve. In this Sphinx Guide, we'll outline each of the riddles, as well as how you can answer them to unlock all 5 treasures, as well as the Full Marks Trophy/Achievement.
Much like the mythological Sphinx from Egyptian stories, the Dragon's Dogma 2 Sphinx loves riddles just as much. You'll be posed five separate riddles, each with a unique treasure to unlock, such as at least one Portcrystal to allow you to more easily Fast Travel around the world.
Getting there, however...is a bit of a challenge.
How to get to the Sphinx in Dragon's Dogma 2
First of all, we'd recommend being around level 20 or so before you try and make your way to the Sphinx, and having at least one mage in your party to help with some of the enemies you'll encounter along the way. That said, see above on how to get here, with the following notes:
- To get to the Checkpoint Rest Town, take the Oxcart on the West side of Vernworth.
- Once you're in the Checkpoint Rest Town, follow the outlined yellow path until you encounter an NPC, and accept their escort quest.
- Follow the NPC, who will have you head through the wrecked castle that overlooks a Dragon in a field.
- Upon completing this Escort Quest, he'll bring you to the top of the Castle Area - with a section at the very top having a Cyclops to fight. There's also a Seeker's Token to your left when you face the top.
- Once you beat the Cyclops, head through the hole in the back to find a cave which you'll need to make your way through until you reach an open area, where you'll need to take down a Golem (Hint: Climb on and whack away at the Medallions)
- Head through another cave after this, then up a flight of large stairs to find the Sphinx and the chests behind it.
Dragon's Dogma 2 Sphinx Riddle Solutions
Here's the meat of this guide, how to solve the Sphinx's 5 Riddles, and get your hands on the sweet loot that will come from doing so. See the solutions, hints, and rewards below!
Riddle of Eyes Solution
Our eyes are our allies, yet oft do they betray, for eyes tell lies, so I advise, and then do lead astray.
Yet how will your eyes advise you? Venture through yonder door, and retrieve that which is of greatest value.
- Riddle of Eyes Answer: Sealing Phial - You'll find this DIRECTLY above the entrance to the area the Sphinx opens up. You can climb up to this. The rest IS worth exploring for EXP and Loot, though!
- Riddle of Eyes Reward: Full Wakestone
Riddle of Madness Solution
Love is as twin to madness, they say. They are bound fast, as night is to day.
So bring forth your most beloved to me, that I might gauge the depths of your insanity.
- Riddle of Madness Answer: Place your Main Pawn (or all 3) on the pedestal (Pick them up) and Answer Yes
- Riddle of Madness Reward: Portcrystal
Riddle of Wisdom Solution
The parent knows the child, yet the reverse is far from true. The child knows the parent: such is the parent's due.
I am a lost child; for kinship do I yearn.
So bring to me my "Parent," that I might better learn.
- Riddle of Wisdom Answer: There are two official CAPCOM Pawns: SphinxMother and SphinxFather. You can find them at the Riftstone in Harve, and then travel back to the Sphinx to complete this riddle, placing the "Parent" on the pedestal.
- Riddle of Wisdom Reward: 1200 RC
Riddle of Conviction Solution
Life is an enigma-a lender of mortal debt. Yet lighter pack makes fleeter foot and challenge nibly met.
So grant to me what you most prize, and thence elude your ponderous demise.
- Riddle of Conviction Answer: Portcrystal (Or high tier item) - You'll get back whatever you give, with the reward being a duplicate.
- Riddle of Conviction Reward: Portcrystal (Or whatever you choose to give, but Portcrystals being rare makes this a good idea)
Riddle of Rumination Solution
Seeker's Tokens are treasures indeed: keepsakes of a fondly remembered journey.
Yet where was it that you found your first? Retrace your steps, if you can - you might make a new discovery.
- Riddle of Rumination Answer: Go back to where you found your FIRST Seeker's Token. There will be an item there for you to pick up, and you have 7 days to return it. Set a Portcrystal near the Sphinx. You'll find a Finder's Token, which you can give to the Sphinx.
- Riddle of Rumination Reward: Ferrystone x3
After you've attempted all five riddles (you can get at least one wrong without issue), the Sphinx will begin to fly away, triggering the Riddle of Reunion.
Second Set of Sphinx Riddles
After completing the 5 Riddles above, the Sphinx will offer you a new challenge, the Riddle of Reunion. She'll fly off, and you've got a new set of riddles to solve.
Here's how to solve the second set of Sphinx Riddles in Dragon's Dogma 2.
Riddle of Reunion Solution
It flies southwest, to the Frontier Shrine location. While you can go there manually, we'd recommend climbing onto her back.
Climbing on will take you directly to the Frontier Shrine — just make sure to let go occasionally while standing on top of Sphinx to regain Stamina.
- Riddle of Reunion Answer: Simply arriving at the Frontier Shrine is enough to complete this riddle.
- Riddle of Reunion Reward: 100,000 Gold.
The next four riddles will be given in a random order, and you must complete each to reach the next. We'd recommend leaving a Portcrystal near the location before tackling them. Also, make sure to check below on how to kill the Sphinx before you complete the final riddle.
Riddle of Differentiation
The Sphinx will show you an NPC, and ask you to find this person out in the world. Despite her instructions, she specifically wants you to bring them to her, rather than just find them.
- Riddle of Differentiation Answer: If you go into the History section of the main menu, then check the NPC Logbook, you can search through NPCs you've seen before. For us, it was an NPC named Dante with a distinctive face, found in the Checkpoint Rest Town. After finding the right NPC, grab them then Ferrystone back to the Frontier Shrine.
- NOTE: Dante has a look-a-like, Vergil, on the other side of the steel gate, towards the shrine. Pay attention to the teeth when she shows you who to look for - Dante has a full set, Vergil does not.
- Riddle of Differentiation Reward: Whimsical Daydream (Trickster weapon).
Riddle of Recollection Solution
For this one, you must place down statues onto the pedestal, based on how many riddles you've successfully completed.
- Riddle of Recollection Answer: The quest list becomes hidden during this, but you can save and quit to the main menu, then reload and it should be available again. Place statues based on how many riddles you've completed, including the Riddle of Reunion.
- Riddle of Recollection Reward: Unmaking Arrow (instantly kills almost anything, make note of this).
Riddle of Futility Solution
You must take a fragile pot all the way to Battahl and give it to an NPC named Maurits.
- Riddle of Futility Answer: Maurits's location will be marked on the map. However, rather than take the pot to him, it makes more sense to take him to the pot. Head on over to Maurits, grab him, then Ferrystone back to the Frontier Shrine Portcrystal you placed earlier.
- Riddle of Futility Reward: Eternal Bond (ring that makes NPC gain friendship more quickly)
Riddle of Contest Solution
You're tasked with fighting a single soldier. However, you're also given a ring that causes all of your attacks to do nearly no damage (though the rest of your stats are fine).
- Riddle of Contest Answer: Simply pick up the guard and throw him off the cliff. This should kill instantly, but repeat if necessary.
- Riddle of Contest Reward: Ring of Ambition (slight experience gain)

After completing this second set of riddles, 10 riddles in all, the Sphinx will then attempt to fly away during your next interaction. However, you can quickly defeat her to claim the key needed for the large gold chest.
How to Kill the Sphinx
Killing the Sphinx in Dragon's Dogma 2 isn't an easy task, as it will usually leave if you attack it normally. However, you do have a brief chance to slay it and obtain the reward from the large golden chest.
- You can beat the Sphinx, but the result is still the same, she flies away. I beat her in about 15 seconds flat, and still didn't get the key. The real way to do it, is below.
For this, you'll need to be an Archer (even Vocation Level 1 is fine) and equip the Unmaking Arrow you get during the riddles. Quickly Equip the Arrow after the dialogue, and switch to steady shot and point towards the area behind you - as the Sphinx attempts to fly away after completing the second set of riddles, shoot her with the arrow.
Rewards for Killing the Sphinx
She's congratulate you, before perishing and leaving behind lots of Gold sacks. More importantly, she also drops the Key of Sagacity needed to open the large gold chest.
The gold chest holds an Eternal Wakestone, while can resurrect everyone within the area. Using this (even if it only revives one person) nets you the Reaper's Scorn achievement.
