In Quantum Break, Jack Joyce is summoned by his old friend Paul Serene to assist with the test run of a time machine created by Jack's brother, Will. However, the test goes horribly wrong and the machine fractures time itself. As a side effect of the experiment, Jack gains the superhuman ability to manipulate time. While he aims to use his powers to repair the damage, his former friend has a different plan, setting the stage for the conflict between an improvised hero and a nuanced villain.
