Rejoice! Developer 2K Games has tweeted today that XCOM 2, the critically-acclaimed sequel to franchise starter XCOM: Enemy Unknown, is finally coming to consoles. 2K and Firaxis Games detailed in a press release that they have teamed with Skydance Media subsidiary The Workshop to bring XCOM 2 to consoles on both Playstation 4 and XBox One with North America getting it on September 6th. The international version will debut shortly after on September 9th.
XCOM 2 is set 20 years after the initial events in the previous game, following an alternate path where humanity failed to stall the alien invasion. XCOM, a secret paramilitary organization meant to fight against the threat, was forced into hiding following the onslaught. The organization is revived in the sequel in an effort to reclaim Earth, following familiar gameplay elements of building up a base of recruits before sending them into a tactical, turn-based battle against the alien threat.
XCOM 2 was wildly successful, receiving nearly perfect scores from IGN, PC Gamer and Game Informer, and an 8.5 out of 10 here at Techraptor despite some technical issues and excessive load times. Releasing early February 2016, it sold over 500,000 units in its first week as a PC exclusive title. Creative director Jake Solomon has stated that the “incredible reception of XCOM 2 has been rewarding and humbling for the team, and we’ve known console fans have been clamoring to play the game too. As avid console players ourselves, we’re excited to work with The Workshop to bring XCOM 2 to all of our fans.”
Both the NA and International versions will sell for the same price as on PC at $59.99. Players who pre-order the game will gain a free Resistance Warrior Pack add-on, featuring additional customization options for their soldiers in addition to an exclusive “Survivor of the Old War” recruit awaiting orders in their barracks. Pre-orders on the Digital Deluxe Edition will receive the XCOM 2 Reinforcement Pack, which includes the base game, all paid dlc, and the Resistance Warrior Pack.
