If you’re looking for a break from the E3 hype train then look no further than today’s State of the Game. Today we’ll be covering the releases for the last full week of May. At the top level this week’s stats are most up compared to last week with the exception of the number of releases and average game completion. Unlike last week however this weeks stats are dominated by the Top 5 releases with them making up over two thirds of the top level stats.

Black Desert Online came to Steam this week after being generally available directly from the developer Pearl Abyss on PC and Xbox One since March last year. Interestingly the Steam release was essentially a fresh start for the game as all users were required to make new accounts if they wanted to use Valve’s platform. Whilst the initial reception was a little lukewarm Black Desert Online has since found its stride with its average player base now 5 times what it was at launch. That might not be much by MMORPG standards but it puts it in the top 20 of Steam games by concurrent players.

Friday the 13th The Game showed a similar uptick in players after initial release with its average concurrent users now double what it was at launch. This is somewhat out of the norm for Kickstarter backed games, at least the few that have released recently, but is likely due to it only having a few small betas and its asymmetric multi-player mechanics.

Steel Division: Normandy 44 full release puts it in the top 5 this week although it had cropped up in the data before. If you pre-ordered the game you were able to play it as far back as April and from what the data shows a decent amount of players did. However that didn’t seem to affect its release week stats as they were far higher than they ever were during the extended beta.
