It’s been a rough ride for Mortal Kombat X PC players since it’s launch last April, as from the start it has been a complete mess. This continued until eight months ago when it was officially abandoned, with PC players being told that they were not receiving Mortal Kombat XL which included big netcode fixes and Kombat Pack 2, which had famous characters such as the Predator.

Fast forward eight months later, and it seems as though things have changed for the better. A thread posted on NeoGaf showed screenshots and evidence that PC players would finally receive the XL version of Mortal Kombat X, with the ‘Mortal Kombat Enhanced Online Beta‘ already available from now until August 29th at 3 PM UTC. A quick glance on the official forums reveals some more information, with WB Mike stating that players will be able to experience the “enhanced rollback system and other updates made for our PC players” during the course of the beta.

For those that want to play the beta, be sure to go to Mortal Kombat X‘s Steam page and download it. However, be aware that the download is just over 23 GB, so be prepared to make some space on your hard drive.

Quick Take

It’s good to hear that Mortal Kombat X is finally getting fixed, and even better to hear that regardless of whether or not you own the game on PC you will be able to try out the beta. It’s been a very frustrating year for PC Mortal Kombat fans, but hopefully this means that PC players will finally get a fully working version of Mortal Kombat X. Better late than never, I guess.

What do you think about the sudden release of Mortal Kombat XL‘s PC beta? Do you even care at this point? Let us know in the comments!

This is largely a move to appease the, rightfully, pissed off players who bought into MKX on PC when it was released, in the hopes of not alienating them for the upcoming Injustice 2. I don’t think it’s gonna be enough, frankly.

Anyone who gave a damn about MKX after the announcement that support for the PC version would be dropped, have already moved onto console, the rest are likely to be too disgruntled to be appeased at all at this point.

There’s no guarantee, at all, that it won’t happen all over again with Injustice 2. Even IF the PC ports are completely handled by Netherrealms from now on, that’s not gonna count for much until after Injustice 2 has run its course and they prove that they meant it.

Also, sloppy thirds, much? Like I said, it’s blatantly obvious that it’s a PR move to smooth over the rough patches created by the bad port to make way for the new game.

Unless they offer some really good deals with the new content, solid netcode, and crossplay, I don’t think it’s gonna win over many, if any, new players.

Meh. No thanks WB, you can keep your shoddy PC ports. Glad for the people who’ve bought this that you’re going to finally fix it, but after your giant “f you” to PC gamers saying you weren’t going to fix it, I have zero confidence in you as a consumer.

idk but maybe just delay the PC release to make a good port?

This stinks of “oh god, we’re going to be releasing a pc game sometime in the near future, and PC gamers fucking hate our guts! Let’s try to do something!”

Too little too late, in my opinion.

My biggest concern about this whole situation was Ed Boon’s constant hinting about the PC changes and how he’s played around it. Look, if it was a business decision at the time to ignore the PC port portion, I would have been pissed, but at least people could have moved on. Boon’s constant hinting on Twitter regarding the PC platform changes bugged the hell out of me, and made me think that he was having fun toying with people. Which was not what I wanted to see out of Netherrealm Studios. WB shenanigans aside, I hate that they never offically came out and answered the problems put before them. That just reeks of a studio not wanting to touch an issue with a 10 foot poll.

It’s great that they are finally coming back to it….but I’ll believe it when I see it.

  • Sorry WB but it’s fat too late.

Wb can rot. Mkx, batman, injustice… All horrid PC ports left to rot. Now they expect of gamers to buy a new game to get a working copy?

They couldn’t even be bothered to fix a bug in the gamma settings for story scenes and that’s just changing a number…a single number.

Never buying another game from them in console or PC. Used maybe…goty only. They won’t see $ from me they taught me my lesson.

So to appease us PC gamers we get the honor of buying the game all over again?

Mkx was like the 4th horrible PC port. No ty wb games. Ever.

It’s a shame that everyone’s shitting on this. They actually got QLOC to make this port. Those guys are amazing.

I have no experience with the previous version, but I tried the online beta for MKXL for a bit and it runs really well. I’m crap at the game, but that’s a different story.

Thing is, even if it turns out to be a great port, that’s what was expected in the first place. It’s gonna take much more than just the port being good (which seems likley at this point) to win people over.
