NVIDIA has just announced their latest and greatest graphics card, the next in the Pascal architecture 10 series that launched in May 2016. The new model will be the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, as the last release was the GTX 1080. The initial retail price will be $699 USD, far cheaper than the NVIDIA Titan X card which retails for $1200 and is now slower than the new 1080 Ti.
Reported to be 35% faster than the GeForce GTX 1080, it is touted by NVIDIA as “The World’s Fastest Gaming GPU.” The Ti uses 3,584 CUDA Cores and 11GB of GDDR5X Video Memory, running at 11 Gbps. The G5X memory contained within is faster than the previous version used in the 1080 and in the TITAN X, which allows the card to increase the memory bandwidth.
There will also be a special Founders Edition of the Ti released, that will have an enhanced high-airflow design in order to make cooling run even more smoothly, quietly and efficiently than before. In turn, this enables the GPU Boost to run better than ever before and will enable overclockers to increase their speeds. Additionally, NVIDIA is rolling out a seven phase power design to improve efficiency with regards to both usage and power levels, utilizing 14 high-efficiency dualFETs. Noteworthy as well is that NVIDIA has revealed that new 1080's will see an upgrade to the new GDDR5X in addition to a price drop of $100.
This official release announcement comes shortly after the physical game box for Halo Wars 2 leaked details of the graphics card by listing it as a recommended "Ultra" requirement for playing the game. The existence of the card was also previously leaked in December by an NVIDIA job posting on LinkedIn.
The 1080 Ti will be the last in the Pascal-based 10 series by NVIDIA, to be replaced with their newer Volta card architecture.
The Ti is set for a worldwide release in 238 countries, with pre-orders on the NVIDIA webstore and the actual release to be on March 10.
