Catan 3D Expansion and Dawn of Humankind Announced

Asmodee publishing and Catan studio have announced that two of their most beloved Catan expansions will be coming to Catan 3D. In addition, they have announced Catan Dawn of Humankind, a reboot of an older game, Settlers of the Stone Age

Last May, Asmodee announced that they would be releasing Catan 3D. It was the exact same board game experience that players know and love, but with fully sculpted 3D pieces, custom dice, and convenient card sorting trays. Now, the studio has announced that two beloved expansions for the board game will getting the 3D treatment as well.

What Expansions Are Coming to Catan 3D?

In an official press release from Asmodee, they announced that the Seafarers and Cities & Knights expansions will be coming to Catan 3D. This box will contain all of the game pieces and tiles from the original printing of these expansions but with fully sculpted and painted game pieces. Both of these expansions will be available in one giant box, containing 363 game pieces total, and will launch at an MSRP of $399.99. This does not contain the base version of Catan 3D. There is currently no official release date.

What Other Catan Games Were Announced?

In this same press release, Asmodee announced a spin-off of their beloved board game: Catan - Dawn of Humankind. This is described as a vibrant reboot of 2002's Settlers of the Stone Age. This is a standalone board game experience designed by Catan's original creator, Klaus Teuber, and his son Benjamin. As the name implies, the game will introduce new mechanics set in the prehistoric era, charting the worldwide migration of the first humans. Catan - Dawn of Humankind will be officially releasing at hobby stores in the United States, Canada, Australia, and the UK on October 1, 2022.

These announcements show just how much the the Catan series has endured. In addition to the expensive Catan 3D and the more economical cardboard versions available. There have been sci-fi spinoffs like Catan: Starfarers. It has released on virtual tabletop platforms like Board Game Arena as well as a few (discontinued) mobile ports. There are even official Catan craft beers courtesy of Champion Beverage Club.
