Bolt Action: Third Edition has been announced. Warlord Games and Osprey Games are dusting off their award-winning World War II miniatures experience and adding revised, streamlined rules and mechanics.
The Bolt Action: Third Edition announcement
According to an official press release, Bolt Action: Third Edition is a revised and updated version of the best-selling World War II war game. Strike out from the beaches of Normandy towards Germany. Sweep across North Africa in lightning raids. Battle across the islands of the Pacific in the streets of Stalingrad.
Furthermore, Bolt Action: Third Edition is packed with diverse army options and scenario options. Field everything from standard rifle platoons to heavily armored tank forces, fast-moving recon patrols, and even artillery units.
Bolt Action was developed by Alessio Cavatore and Rick Priestley. The first edition was released in 2012, and its second edition was published in 2016. It not only allowed players to play as either the Allies or the Axis Powers, it had rules for smaller supporting armies from Australia, Bulgaria, Finland, Poland and more.
In addition, Bolt Action received two supplements. One covered conflicts and scenarios from The Korean War. The second was Konflict '47, a supernatural dieselpunk alternate history version of World War II.
In the press release, Cavatore commented on the challenges and goals of Bolt Action: Third Edition. He stated the following,
“My chief mission with Bolt Action: Third Edition was to make my favourite game an even better experience for the players. For me, there’s always one goal in mind – continuing my quest for a truly ‘seamless’ set of wargame rules – in other words, the Holy Grail of a rules system where the players are always thinking about their next moves on the table, and not about the rules of the game! I think Bolt Action: Third Edition is definitely a big step in that direction, and I’m sure you’ll agree with me!”
This new edition will feature updated rules and starter army lists for new players while retaining tactical depth for seasoned players thanks to force composition mechanics and a refreshing scenario generation system. In addition, the game will be continue to be supported by Warlord Games' award-winning line of miniatures.
