The world of Apex Legends is coming to the tabletop. The battle royale shooter, published by Electronic Arts and developed by Respawn Entertainment, has remained quite popular in the competitive online phenomenon. It's a game that stands out against Fortnite and PUBG thanks to fast dynamic movement, a greater focus on team communication, and its playable Legends: characters with distinct personalities and unique abilities. Now, developer Glass Cannon Unplugged have announced they want to bring that experience to gaming tables with Apex Legends: The Board Game.

Apex Legends: The Board Game announcement

Apex Legends: The Board Game was officially announced on Glass Cannon Unplugged's YouTube channel. The 50-second video featured GCU's CEO, Jakub Wisniewski talking about the game, sitting alongside a mock-up of the game's box and plastic miniatures of various Legends. Those miniatures are of Gibraltar, Wraith, Bloodhound, and Bangalore respectively.

According to Wisniewski, Apex Legends: The Board Game will be more than just a tabletop battle royale game. It will be a system designed to not just accommodate board game newbies but allow for formal organized play. In addition, he states the game will support highly detailed miniatures, sharp graphic design, and even seasonal releases similar to the source material. That means that, in addition to the initial release, which will be happening via Kickstarter, there will potentially be add-ons and expansions introducing new maps, weapons, mechanics, and miniatures of the Legends currently in the game. Since there are 23 different playable characters right now at the time of writing, that is plenty of material to adapt.

Apex Legends: The Board Game isn't the first board game adaptation Glass Cannon Unplugged has tackled. Their work includes the adaptation of Techland's zombie survival parkour action game Dying Light, as well as an adaptation of 11-bit Studio's brutal survival strategy game Frostpunk.

The Kickstarter campaign for Apex Legends: The Board Game will go live on May 17, 2023.
