In an interview, NIS America president Takuro Yamashita announced that the long-awaited PC version of Ys VIII will be coming in April. The interview, as posted by "Greg's RPG HeaveN", Yamashita talks about the difficulties of porting Ys VIII, primarily to account for different computer configurations. After checking with someone off-screen, he reveals that the PC version of Ys VIII will come "next month, in April." While the Steam page has yet to be updated to reflect this latest update, the release can't come soon enough for many.

NIS America has had a troubled road with Ys VIII. After delaying the PC release "indefinitely" earlier this year, many wondered if NIS America would release Lacrimosa of Dana at all. Particularly telling is that President Yamashita did not touch on the specifics of the engine rebuild that would be needed to solve "persistent framerate issues," as alluded to in the original delay announcement. Before that, there was the well-documented frustration with the poor translation and localization of Lacrimosa of Dana.

Forgive us for being skeptical. With two major delays firmly in the rearview mirror, and NIS America handing off the engine work to another developer, the tentative April release isn't wholly reassuring. While word from the company president is as official as it gets, there's been no secondary confirmation by the company. Lest we repeat what happened with Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time, where the reported release date came and went, before we discovered that Bandai Namco had never officially announced a release date at all. At the very least, we'll hopefully get our hands on Ys VIII before the Switch port releases. For now, fans of the Ys series on PC will hopefully have to wait just a little bit longer to get their hands on Lacrimosa of Dana.
