As we ring in the new year, Microsoft is gifting us with another selection of titles in the Games With Gold program. January's roster isn't one to scoff at. During the first month of 2019, Xbox Live Gold subscribers can get access to Celeste, WRC 6 FIA World Rally Championship, Lara Croft: Guardian of Light, and Far Cry 2. These games are yours to keep when claimed during the windows of time they're available, which you can find below.
- Celeste, Jan. 1–31
- WRC 6, Jan. 16–Feb. 15
- Lara Croft: Guardian of Light, Jan. 1–15
- Far Cry 2, Jan. 16–31
WRC 6 is a rally racing game modeled after the 2016 World Rally Championship. Test your skills by racing in rough conditions involving mud, fog, and night racing. To add to the challenge, your car's engine can break down, and tires can puncture.
Guardian of Light takes a different approach to the Tomb Raider franchise, giving players an isometric view to control Lara. Additionally, the combat is like a twin-stick shooter, and players can team up with a friend for some co-op action. The game originally came out for the Xbox 360, but Xbox One users can still play it thanks to Microsoft's commitment to backwards compatibility. If you finished playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider a few months ago and are looking for more tomb-raiding action, this one might be for you.
Finally, Far Cry 2 is another backwards-compatible title. Set in Africa, the game tasks players with defeating the Jackal, an arms dealer fueling a surrounding civil war. While waiting for Far Cry: New Dawn, it's a good time to see where the franchise was before Vaas showed up.
