Gamespot reports that Polish-based developer CD Projekt Red (best known for The Witcher series of games and the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077) have released their financial report for the first quarter of 2017. Among the sea of information is the fact that The Witcher 3 has sold better in Q1 2017 than it has in Q1 2016.

The Witcher 3 is the third game in a series of adaptations of Andrzej Sapkowski's The Witcher books. They tell the tale of Geralt, a silver-haired man who has taken on the role of a Witcher. Witchers are highly-trained warriors that are empowered with various magic and alchemy to become capable of fighting off terrible creatures that are threatening mankind. The video game series has proven popular to say the least and even has a Netflix series is on its way. The financial report was summarized in a short video presentation going over some of the company's highlights from the first quarter of 2017:

Financially speaking, CD Projekt Red is doing well. The first quarter showed a 17% increase in total revenue for the Polish-based developer and the gaming division grew by 10% despite not having yet released a game this year. Digital storefront GOG.com (a division of CD Projekt) had a 63% increase in revenue.

One of the contributing metrics to their success was the continued healthy sales of The Witcher 3 and its DLC. The game's sales performance has been increasing even though there have been price drops and multiple sales within the last year. Free-to-play card game Gwent also has also helped things along. 16 million PLN has been pumped back into the company's game development division to fund the work on Gwent and Cyberpunk 2077. If you would like to take a look at the full financial report you can see it here.

What do you think of The Witcher 3? Why do you suppose it has had stronger sales in the first quarter of 2017 as compared to the same time last year? Are you looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077? Let us know in the comments below!
