Command & Conquer remaster has been announced by Electronic Arts Producer Jim Vessella on the /r/CommandandConquer subreddit. Adding to the surprise, Mr. Vesella stated that two remastered titles are currently in the works.

Command & Conquer is one of the legends of the real-time strategy genre. The game has seen numerous titles launched on multiple different platforms and it's occasionally dipped its toe into other genres. While the series was certainly popular in its heydey, we haven't seen a core C&C title since 2010's Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight. The most recent announcement of the Rivals mobile game at E3 2018 was met with a lukewarm response.

That's all changed with the announcement of two Command & Conquer remasters in the works. A video on EA's YouTube channel complimented the text submission on Reddit:

Command & Conquer: Remastered and Command & Conquer: Red Alert Remastered are now officially in development. The project is being undertaken by Petroglyph Games. The company just so happens to have some of the core members of the original C&C development team on staff.

The series was certainly known for its expansion packs, and fans will be relieved to hear that Covert Ops, Counterstrike, and Aftermath will be bundled into the base game of the Command & Conquer remaster. There has also been the promise of no microtransactions in the package. That's a phrase I'd never thought I'd be writing for an EA game, but here we are.

The Command & Conquer remaster news isn't all sunshine and lollipops. One of the comments by Mr. Vessella states that they are "sharing this news [early]", implying that the production is still quite young. It's likely that it will be some time before we'll actually be able to get our hands on these games. On the upside, he does seem to be actively soliciting feedback from the community to ensure that they do this project right.

Mr. Vesella had previously teased the possibility of a remastered game being produced but we didn't have any official confirmation until today. In the meantime, a collection of the original games is available to pick up on Origin for $19.99 or your regional equivalent. If you don't yet have an Origin account, you'll probably want to get one - odds are you'll be playing a Command & Conquer remaster exclusively on that platform.

What do you think of the announcement of Command & Conquer: Remastered and Command & Conquer: Red Alert Remastered? Do you think Petroglyph can do the games justice? Let us know in the comments below!
