The Warcraft series may be best-known for World of Warcraft, the most well-known MMO of all time, but it started with a series of real-time strategy games. After much anticipation and speculation, a remaster of Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos was finally announced at BlizzCon 2018.
The remaster of the beloved 2002 strategy game will be getting the remaster treatment in 2019 in the form of Warcraft 3 Reforged. A series of side-by-side character models were shown, comparing the new and the old, along with footage of the remastered game. The images sure look sharp, boasting a resolution of 4K.
The remastered game will include all content from Reign of Chaos and its Frozen Throne expansion. You can pre-purchase the Spoils of War edition from Blizzard's site, which includes bonus items across some of Blizzard's other games.

Warcraft 3 was an incredibly influential real-time strategy game, combining tactical base-building with skillful micro-management of units. It had a popular competitive scene and, perhaps more notably for the remaster, a sprawling campaign. The lore established in the campaign and its expansions would go on to lay the foundation for World of Warcraft. Most notably, Wrath of the Lich King was based on Warcraft 3's Frozen Throne expansion.
Warcraft 3 also gave birth to custom games such as Defence of the Ancients, which would eventually spin-off become the massively popular DotA 2. Tower Defense games were also heavily created here with famous Wintermaul game and many others there.
This remaster, which was rumored for a while, follows last year's Starcraft Remastered, a faithful and impressive remaster of one of the most influential strategy games of all time. It's no Warcraft 4, but here's hoping Blizzard give this game the treatment it deserves.
Warcraft 3 Reforged will be coming 2019. Stay tuned for more details.
