Some of the lucky fans who have their hands on Warcraft 3: Reforged are rather upset at the current state of the game, with one such fan highlighting a long list of features that have suddenly changed.
Players have had a good chunk of time to enjoy Warcraft 3: Reforged and it has a fair few problems. Some are reporting issues with disconnects and general instability — something that really shouldn't be a problem for a game that was originally working just fine almost two decades ago.
Nonetheless, remasters can and do have new problems emerge, and it seems that the developers have a lot on their plate at the moment. Unfortunately, they've also reportedly made the decision to make some drastic changes to the Classic version of the game.
What's changed in the Classic Version of Warcraft 3: Reforged?
A post on the game's official forums details a robust list of features that have been changed for the classic version of Warcraft 3 that is included with a purchase of Reforged. According to this user, these features were previously available as recently as a day ago and now are suddenly unavailable:
- Cross-region play
- Custom campaigns
- Clans
- Player profiles
- Ladder play
- The Battle.net-style chat system
- Old-style U.I.
- Legal issues with a much more severe EULA
- Classic graphics are missing shadows, saturation, and some spell effects
- The Reign of Chaos campaign is using balancing decisions from The Frozen Throne
Additionally, a number of features were available in vanilla Warcraft 3 prior to 2018 and are no longer in the game:
- Arranged teams
- Reconnection via GProxy
- Overall game stability
- Online lobby list
- Competitive custom games
- Ability to kick & ban
- Ping issues
- Hack/maphack protection
- Anti-spam protection
- Automated replay saving
- Replay Archive
It's unclear why Blizzard has decided to make these changes. Considering that the game currently has a 1.4 User Score on Metacritic, it seems like the developers have a lot of work ahead of them.
