IL-2 Sturmovik developer 1C Game Studio has announced The War of the Worlds: Siberia, an action-adventure game inspired by the classic H.G. Wells novel.
The game transports the action to an alternate-history late-19th-century Siberia, which is here imagined as the site of a large-scale Martian invasion.
Stuck in besieged Petrograd, a group of survivors must make their way to the eastern end of Russia while the Martians hunt them down.

In a press release, 1C promises a "thrilling action-adventure experience" in The War of the Worlds: Siberia.
The studio says that in a "unique setting", we'll get to meet "classic archetypes" of late-19th-century Russia, although the developers don't go into any detail regarding what these archetypes might be.
1C also teases "shootouts with dozens of weapons" ranging from black powder pistols to Maxim machine guns, as well as stealth sequences and puzzles.
As one of the earliest novels to depict an alien invasion, The War of the Worlds has proven hugely influential across all media, spawning movies, radio shows, and TV show adaptations.
Of course, this also won't be the first video game to be based on The War of the Worlds.
The novel has inspired numerous games both directly and indirectly, with the most recent of them being 2020's Grey Skies: A War of the Worlds Story.
Another War of the Worlds game is currently in development by indie dev FlipSwitch Games, although the scope of that project looks somewhat different to 1C's approach.
