Today, during the quarterly financial conference call for investors and analysts, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot commented on Grand Theft Auto 6, the future of Xbox, and Skull and Bones.

Guillemot was asked about the competition against the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6. He explained that this kind of big release actually has a beneficial impact on the rest of the industry.

Ubisoft is organizing around the game's launch and previously managed to generate record ales and really good revenue and profit around the releases of GTA5. Incidentally, they expect it to come "closer" to the financial year 26 (between April 2025 and March 2026) than the financial year 25.

Will Grand Theft Auto 6 bring big crowds to gaming as Ubisoft expects, benefiting the whole industry?

What we can say about GTA6 is what we've seen in the past is that each time there's a big release like GTA, there are more and more people coming back to the industry and that helps other games as to sell as well. Fo sure we look at it and we are really organizing things around the launch of that game, which don't know exactly when is going to happen.

We consider it will be closer to our financial year 26 than our financial year 25, but what we've seen, is that generally it's actually positive for the market and we did a good launch when GTA5 first launched and the GTA5 high-end game. Each time we were able to generate really good revenue and profit on the games we launched, and even record sales.

Within the same question, the executive was asked to comment on the possible impact of Microsoft going multiplatform (at least according to certain rumors, which the company appears to be poised to address next week). He doesn't seem too phased by the idea, mentioning that it wouldn't have a huge impact on the industry.

On Microsoft's rumors, we can't comment, but they're going to decide what is best for them. What you have to look at is that anyway Activision Blizzard used to be multiplatform, so it would have an impact, but not a huge impact on the industry.

Guillemot was also asked to explain what drove the decision to price Skull and Bones at $70. He mentioned that it's a "full-fledged game" ad it's a "very big game." Ubisoft feels that people will see how "vast and complete" it's a "full quadruple-A game that will live in the long run."

Incidentally, if you want to pre-order a physical copy of Skull and Bones, you can do so on Amazon.
