Developer Neetpia and publisher Phoenixx have announced a new release window and demo for upcoming magical RTS The Touhou Empires.

The game, which is a fan project set in the extensive "community-driven Touhou universe", is now targeting a Q1 2024 release on PC via Steam.

In addition, a demo is scheduled to arrive on Steam sometime today, so make sure to add the game to your wishlist if this is one you're wanting to check out.

Along with recent games like Koumajou Remilia 2 and Touhou: New WorldThe Touhou Empires is set in the world of Touhou. It takes place across the entire Gensokyo realm and pits "fan favorite factions" against one another in fast-paced RTS battles.

The game will star more than 30 Touhou characters, including fan favorites like Reimu Hakurei and Marisa Kirisame.

It will also feature a story campaign that offers 20 stages, as well as online multiplayer with support for free-for-all battles or 3v3 team matches.

Each faction will offer a different playstyle; the Scarlet Devil Mansion, for instance, focuses heavily on early game dominance, while the Hakurei Shrine revolves around defense.

You'll need to manage both your micro and your macro gameplay, fielding units that work for each combat situation while also making sure you've got a handle on where your game is heading overall.

The demo for The Touhou Empires is being made available as part of Steam Strategy Fest, during which you'll also be able to get Neetpia's Gensokyo Defenders at a pretty handsome discount.

The Touhou Empires lands on PC via Steam sometime in Q1 2024. The game will support English, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Korean, and Japanese.

We don't have a more specific release date than that yet, sadly, and we don't yet know if the game is headed to consoles either. Stay tuned for more on this one.
