Are you ready for another Touhou Project title? XSEED and Marvelous have revealed that Touhou: New World, a new entry in the long-running bullet-hell RPG series, is heading West in summer. The game will be released for PC and Switch, with PlayStation release dates also forthcoming at a later time.
Created by the fans behind Touhou: Scarlet Curiosity, New World (which was originally revealed as Touhou: Choushinsei in 2021, before being re-revealed in February as Touhou: Shinsekai) takes you back to Gensokyo, a world inhabited by both humans and youkai. The barrier protecting Gensokyo is breached, and Reimu and her friend Marisa must discover the reason behind the breach and restore peace to both the human world and the spirit world.
As you might expect from a Touhou Project game, the combat will see you dodging "fountains of projectiles", as Marvelous says, but those projectile can be countered by dealing damage with spell cards and exorcism sticks, as well as by executing well-timed guard maneuvers. The combat promises to be just as intense as Touhou usually is.
Of course, you'll also be able to customize both Reimu and Marisa to suit your playstyle, upgrading their skills however you see fit and covering your weaknesses (or perhaps emphasizing your strengths). You'll find gear throughout the game's world, and it'll have randomized stats, so it's important to keep looking for new gear or reforging existing gear so you can get the combination you want.
As you play, you'll be able to explore the land of Gensokyo, helping its residents with whatever tasks they need you to do. If you do, you'll get rewards, and you might "learn a tip or two" to help you on your quest, too. It's always worth going out of your way to help those in need, right?
Touhou: New World makes its way to PC and Switch in summer this year. The game is also coming to PlayStation consoles, although we don't know when just yet. Stay tuned to TechRaptor for more info on that.
