Bandai Namco Entertainment and Outright Games have announced a new game based on the How To Train Your Dragon universe will be making its way to gaming platforms next year: Dreamworks Dragons Dawn of New Riders.

Dreamworks Dragons Dawn of New Riders is exactly what it says on the tin - a game featuring new characters in the How To Train Your Dragon universe that is handled by the Dreamworks production company. The characters in the movies are certainly popular in their own right and have starred in their own games. This game will instead feature new heroes on an adventure too - what else? - save the dragons.

Our new hero Scribbles and his hybrid dragon Patch will be flying throughout the mysterious land filled with levitating lizards. Players of Dreamworks Dragons Dawn of New Riders will get to explore familiar locations from the How To Train Your Dragon movies along with some brand new places. You and your scaly friend will go forth with a quest to confront the villain Eir who is controlling dragonkind for her own nefarious purposes.

The announcement comes just a few months before the release of How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, the third (and presumably final) movie in the trilogy. The release date for Dreamworks Dragons Dawn of New Riders is pegged as February 2019  - the same time that the third movie of the trilogy is expected to release.

When it does arrive, you'll be able to get it for the PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

What do you think of Dreamworks Dragons Dawn of New Riders? Do you think an exploration of the How To Train Your Dragon universe can work without relying on the main characters from the franchise? What do you hope to see in the game? Let us know in the comments below!

I've had a controller in my hand since I was 4 and I haven't stopped gaming since. CCGs, Tabletop Games, Pen & Paper RPGs - I've tried a whole bunch of stuff over the years and I'm always looking to try more!
