There's a new survival MMO in town, and this one's all about pandemics. The Day Before lets you explore and scavenge the ruins of a post-pandemic USA. It'll launch for PC via Steam this year, with other platforms as yet unconfirmed.
What is The Day Before all about?
While the devs describe The Day Before's world as "post-pandemic", don't worry - this isn't a COVID-19 apocalypse. Rather, it's a slightly more traditional zombie-style pandemic that turns sufferers into flesh-eating monsters. You wake up amidst the chaos of this world, having left the world you remember behind, and must adapt to your new surroundings, gathering materials and fending off threats in order to survive. It's got shades of The Division, The Last of Us, and Days Gone. You can check out the trailer for The Day Before right here:
Gameplay-wise, The Day Before has plenty of the things you'd expect from a survival MMO. You can search abandoned buildings and vehicles for supplies to help you survive. Naturally, you won't just be competing with the infected; there are also other players to worry about with their own agendas. Will they cooperate or shoot you on sight? Only time will tell. Developers Mytona and Fntastic are promising a "beautiful yet dangerous" world full of "stunningly detailed" assets. There's also a survivor colony that acts as a player communication hub and marketplace.

The devs behind this game don't have a huge amount of major IP to their names. Mytona is mostly known for mobile platform games and hidden object titles. Its collaborator, Fntastic, is a relatively new studio known for short adventure experience Radiant One and survival game The Wild Eight. Still, what I'm seeing of The Day Before looks pretty impressive, especially given it's the first project like this either studio has embarked on. We'll have to wait and see what it delivers, but if this is the kind of thing you're into, you can wishlist the game right now on Steam.
