Fntastic still isn't done with The Day Before, it seems, as the studio has released a lengthy rebuttal to some of the accusations being leveled against it.
In a post on the Fntastic X (formerly known as Twitter) account, the studio says that "a lot of misinformation has emerged" about The Day Before, which was removed from sale after an extremely controversial launch.
If you're thinking that you'd heard Fntastic had shut down as well, you're not alone; the developer announced its closure in December, although this new post suggests that it's still alive in some form.
In its response message, Fntastic addresses claims that the studio "deceived players", claiming that it worked "hard and honestly" on The Day Before for five years.
The studio also says the game's shutdown hasn't affected its partnership with publisher Mytona, with whom it's still working on Propnight.
Fntastic goes on to blame "certain bloggers" for essentially creating clickbait around The Day Before, suggesting that these bloggers are the only ones who made money from the game's release.
In addition, Fntastic says it "implemented everything shown in the trailers" released before the game's launch, and that only "a few minor features, like parkour" were disabled "due to bugs".
Fntastic blames The Day Before's negative reception on "negative bias" instilled by the aforementioned bloggers, suggesting that a "hate campaign" caused the game to fail.
The studio goes on to claim that "many people" wrote to it following the closure of The Day Before's sales, and that these people told Fntastic "bloggers had deceived them and they liked the game".
In closing, Fntastic encourages people to keep an eye on its social media "to know what will happen next". That's a rather strange way for a supposedly defunct studio to sign off.
We'll have to wait and see what happens next in the apparently ongoing saga of The Day Before. In the meantime, if you've somehow missed out on the controversy surrounding the game, make sure to check out our very own Anson Chan's exhaustive write-up to get up to speed.
