Steam has launched the VR Weekend Sale according to an announcement by Valve. The sale includes games that support either the HTC Vive or Oculus Rift as well as titles that support both headsets.
The sale includes both VR-exclusive titles as well as games with VR support. The page for the sale lists 24 titles. All of the front page titles have HTC Vive support and 12 of them feature Oculus Rift support. Here are some of the notable titles currently on sale:
Space Pirate Trainer is an Early Access game that requires the HTC Vive. You dual wield pistols or shields and try to shoot down incoming drones before they kill you. You'll face attacks from multiple directions and you can swap out either (or both) of your guns for an energy shield to deflect attacks that you can't manage to dodge. The store page for Space Pirate Trainer indicates that support for other headsets may be coming.
Subnautica is another Early Access game that supports the Oculus Rift but doesn't outright require it. This title is under development from the company that brought you Natural Selection 2. It's a survival game in a similar vein to titles like The Forest with a twist - it takes place underwater on an alien planet. You'll have to manage your oxygen while trying to gather the necessary resources to keep yourself alive.
Elite Dangerous is a great option for everyone whether you own a Vive, a Rift, or no VR headsets at all. It's proven to be quite a popular title having sold 1.4 million copies as of January 2016. Players can fly around an absolutely massive universe featuring 400 billion star systems as they try to make their way in the galactic community. You can upgrade your ship, run trading missions, and fight both A.I. and human enemies in intense battles. The core game, Deluxe Edition, and Horizons season pass are all discounted at 33% off.
If you're looking for an absolutely bargain bin experience you can check out bloxyz which being sold for $0.49 (an 88% discount). bloxyz is a 3D puzzle game with many similarities to Tetris. It requires an XBox Controller and a VR Headset to play it. It supports both the Vive and the Rift.
Lastly, if you'd just like to build a massive library of VR games the VR Weekend Sale Bundle features 20 titles at an additional 15% discount. However, only three of the titles in this bundle feature Oculus Rift support so it's only really a good choice for Vive owners.
The sale includes games beyond those featured in the bundle and the handpicked titles for the sale page. A search of Steam's specials that have either HTC Vive or Oculus Rift support produces a list of 192 titles with discounts ranging from 10% to 88%.
The VR Weekend Sale ends Monday, August 1 at 10 AM Pacific Time.
