South Park: The Fractured But Whole Delayed to 2017

In news that makes me horribly sad, the follow-up to the absolutely brilliant South Park - The Stick Of Truth has been delayed to Q1 2017.

Originally slated for a December 2016 release date, South Park: The Fractured But Whole has been pushed back to early 2017 to give enough time for the development team to "make sure the game experience meets the high expectations of fans and the additional time will help them achieve this goal."

The Stick Of Truth came out of nowhere, being developed by RPG wunderkinds Obsidian Entertainment, and was released to fairly universal acclaim. The follow up continues on the story of The Stick Of Truth, and amps up the South Parkedness to 11, with more stupid jokes, violence, and support for their Nosulus Rift Peripheral, which is sure to take VR gaming to all new levels. I can't see it being easy programming fart smells, and also probably not easy marketing something they will only be showing off at conventions.

The Fractured But Whole takes place after the start of a falling out of Coon and friends, Cartman's superhero group, and the group fractures and starts a civil war. The Fractured But Whole will feature twelve superhero classes of which are revealed to be the Brutalist, the Blaster, the Speedster, Elementalist, Gadgeteer, Mystic, Cyborg, Psychic, Assassin, Commander, Netherborn, and Karate Kid, up from four in the previous title, with the option to also create a female character.

Check out the gameplay trailer below, and see what you will now have to wait even longer for.

Quick Take

I am super duper stoked for this game to come out, and the news of its delay is more uplifting than it is disheartening. They obviously care enough about the content to delay rather than release something they aren't 100% happy with, and I for one am extremely happy about that. The Stick of Truth was a game I could not put down and definitely look forward to another hopefully polished and super fun experience in the South Park universe, and from the attached gameplay trailer, it looks like they are well on the way to delivering.
