Today Bethesda and Arkane released a big update (Game Update 2) for the vampire-slaying shooter Redfall, which was released a while ago.
The biggest addition is likely the performance mode targeting 60 FPS on Xbox Series X|S, the absence of which at launch sparked intense controversy.
PC players also get enhanced performance and stability, on top of fixes to memory crashes and visual corruption that manifested when changing resolution on AMD video cards.
The user interface also received plenty of quality-of-life changes, on top of accessibility improvements, which are always welcome.
Another welcome feature is a full suite of customization for aim-assist and dead-zone tuning, even if Arkane has its own recommendations as follows.
- For fast paced multiplayer FPS fans – Check out Medium, High, or Linear Input Response Presets as they tend to feel faster and more responsive overall.
- For slower single player FPS fans – Check out Default, Low, or Medium Input Response Presets as the slower response curves tend to feel like you have a little more precision over your aim.
Changes to combat include stealth takedowns, and increased open-world enemy density. Speaking of enemies, they'll also be able to avoid firing on each other and won't get stuck anymore.
More changes were also made to the environmental effects and multiplayer. You can read the full patch notes on the official website.
It'll certainly be interesting to see whether this will help with the game's dwindling population, and give Redfall a new lease on life. Considering the very mixed reception, it's certainly good that Arkane opted to keep working on the game.
