Sony is rolling out a new PS5 update that adds some much-requested features to the console. After almost two years on the market, PS5 1440p support is finally coming, and other features like gamelists, audio comparison, and more easily accessible in-game activities are also being added.

What's in this latest PS5 update?

This update first entered its beta stage back in July, but it's now ready to roll out across PS5s worldwide. First up, you can now choose to display games in 1440p resolution if your monitor supports it, which is big if you're playing on a quad HD display. Make sure to check whether your monitor is compatible via your console's Screen and Video menu.

The other big feature of this update is the "gamelist", which allows you to organize your games within your collection. They're not dissimilar to folders, although it's not entirely clear whether the gamelists will also be visible from the main PS5 UI or whether you'll need to access your collection every time to see them.

Gamelists are just one of the new features being added in the latest PS5 update.

There are also some new additions that are a little more "under the hood". You can now compare 3D audio and stereo audio to see which one you prefer, and in-game activities are now more clearly visible when you're picking a game back up, so you can see where you left off. The ability to search YouTube with voice commands has been added in preview form, and you'll now also be able to launch a Remote Play session using the PlayStation mobile app.

If you're a social gamer, you'll be pleased with the new social features, which include the ability to request a screen share from one of your party members and a notification when a party member is playing a game you can hop into. It's worth checking out the full PS5 update announcement to see everything that's new, and make sure to check your console for system updates so you can download this one ASAP.
