X & PlayStation

Today Sony Interactive Entertainment sent a message via the PS5 and PS4's advisory systems mentioning that the consoles won't support X (formerly Twitter)  integration anymore.

The message mentions that integration with the social media platform will cease to function on both consoles as of November 13, 2023.

Players also won't be able to link their Sony account to X.

IMPORTANT CHANGES TO PLAYSTATION COMMUNITIES ON YOUR PS5/PS4 CONSOLE

As of November 13, 2023, integration with X (formerly known as Twitter) will no longer function on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles. This includes the ability to view any content published on X on PS5/PS4, and the ability to post and view content, trophies, and other gameplay related activities on X directly from PS5/PS4 (or link an X account to do so). For details on how to share game captures from PS5, click the button below.

This is likely a consequence of the changes at Twitter following the acquisition by Elon Musk and leading to the rebranding to "X." Among them, the API through which external services interface with the social media platform has been overhauled and its usage has ceased to be free.

The pricing change led many external services to suspend their integration with the platform, including Xbox, which made the change back in April.

Twitter integration was originally added to PlayStation consoles with the PS4 in 2013, and users have been using it since to share their gameplay activities, screenshots, and video captures. The #PS4share hashtag has been a common sight on social media, followed by #PS5share with the onsent of the current generation.

In other PlayStation news, Sony is rolling out a new and slimmed-down PS5 model, of which you can watch a teardown
