Prisoners lined up (in all-new 3D!) in key art for Prison Architect 2

Double Eleven and Paradox Interactive have announced Prison Architect 2, the sequel to the much-loved prison management sim Prison Architect.

The game will arrive on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on March 26th and will feature an all-new 3D visual style, as teased by the trailer for the final Prison Architect update back in May.

Paradox and Double Eleven are promising deeper simulation systems, "greater player control", and more creative options for this sequel, so if you loved Prison Architect, chances are you'll love this followup as well.

Prison Architect 2 will feature a new 3D art style and deeper simulation mechanics.

Naturally, since this is a simulation game, you'll need to manage your prisoners' needs, construct increasingly complex facilities, and keep an eye on your finances.

New systems include relationships between prisoners, who can now form friendships or become bitter enemies, as well as new options for 3D construction and more.

Game director Gareth Wright says Prison Architect 2 will represent "the next level in management gameplay" and that it'll feature a new upgrade system, a brand new Career mode, and the ability to share prisons across platforms.

Rather excitingly, the Career mode now features a world map that has you managing multiple facilities as a prison magnate.

In short, it sounds like if you're after a big expansion of the Prison Architect formula, that's exactly what Prison Architect 2 will offer.

Since the first game received a raft of post-launch updates and DLC expansions over the course of its lifetime, it's likely we can expect the same for the followup, so if a feature isn't present in the base game, it'll almost certainly be added later on down the line.

Prison Architect 2 launches for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on March 26th. It'll retail for $39.99 or your regional equivalent. Stay tuned for more on this one.
