In a recent announcement on the movie's website, it was revealed that Persona 3 The Movie: #3 Falling Down will be coming to Japanese theaters on April 4th. The film was first teased at the end of the last Persona 3 film "Persona 3 The Movie: #2, Midsummer Knight's Dream." Based on the Japanese RPG of the same name, the first installment of the movie series, Persona 3 The Movie: #1, Spring of Birth, was released on November 2013 and the second on June 2014. The list of theaters can be seen here for those who might be visiting Japan while it's in theaters.

While all three films were written by Jun Kumagai, this installment will be directed by Keitaro Motonaga, who's work as a director includes the Data a Live series as well as the upcoming Digimon Adventure Tri. Jun Kumagai is certainly no stranger to the Persona series, having worked on a number of episodes of Persona 4 The Animation along with The Factor of Hope recap movie. The voice cast from the game will be reprising their roles for the film.

The original Japanese Playstation 2 RPG was released on July 13, 2006 and localized in the US by Atlus on August of the following year. It was later updated a year later with the expansion/re-release called "Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 FES" with a new chapter called "The Journey" and an epilogue called "The Answer." The game was ported to the Playstation Portable two years later.

The limited edition of movie's theme song CD will be released next February for 3,000 yen with a free movie ticket included. The CD contains the following tracks:

  • Light in Starless Sky
  • Sakerarenu Tatakai -Power Mix-
  • Living With Determination -Mellow Velvet Mix-
  • Light in Starless Sky -Karaoke Ver.-

Advance ticket sales start on January 10th. Those who buy their tickets early will receive the nice double-sided poster (pictured below) with their purchase. While some fans of the Shin Megami Tensei might feel the completionist urge to order a ticket just for the poster, it would probably be wiser buy one from a friend in Japan for those who aren't able to be there for the film's theatrical release. For everyone who is lucky enough to see it in theaters, I hope they enjoy it as much as they did playing game that it's based on.
