Japanese studio TVT (Tokyo Virtual Theory) has revealed the title, a teaser, and some details about its upcoming Patapon spiritual successor.
The game, which was provisionally named "Project JabberWocky" when it was originally teased about a year ago, is actually titled Ratatan and it was presented on stage by Patapon creator Hiroyuki Kotani, Toshiyuki Yasui, and Kazuto Sakajiri.
While the game is a spiritual successor of the classic PSP rhythm game, the developers also intend to add something new to keep the experience fresh for new fans. While they did not confirm the presence of multiplayer, they did tease it, mentioning that TVT is about playing games together with other people.
Patapon and LocoRoco veteran Kenmei Adachi is creating the music for the game, so veteran fans should be able to feel right at home. You'll probably feel that by watching the short teaser showcased during the presentation below.
A Kickstarter campaign will start quite soon, on August 1st at 1:00 a.m. Japan time, which translates into 9 a.m. PDT, Noon EDT, 5 p.m. BST, and 6 p.m. CEST on July 31. More details will be shared three days before the campaign starts.
At the moment, neither the platforms nor the release window have been revealed. We'll likely hear more about that in a few days. In the meanwhile, below you can also check out some artwork created form Ratatan.
If you're unfamiliar with Patapon, the devilishly catchy rhythm game was originally released in 2007 for PSP and then remastered for PS4 ten years after, in 2017. The sequel Patapon 2 launched shortly after for Sony's venerable portable console in 2008 and then remastered in 2020. Patapon 3 came in 2011, and it remains exclusive to the PSP.
