Overwatch Gets Free Weekend on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One

Overwatch Open Blizzard ELEAGUE FACEIT

I think by now we can safely assume that Blizzard's hero-based shooter Overwatch is an enormous success. The game has had a slew of updates recently ranging from simple balance tweaks and fixes to emulating Rocket League with an Overwatch skin to coincide with this year's Olympic Games in Rio.

For the few people that haven't yet had the chance to try out Overwatch for themselves, Blizzard Entertainment is holding a free weekend for players on either the PlayStation 4 or the Xbox One (or both) from September 9 until September 12.

For this free weekend, we're making Overwatch's full roster of 22 heroes and 13 maps available for play in a variety of modes, including Quick Play, Custom Games, and the latest Weekly Brawl. You'll also be able to level up, earn Loot Boxes, and unlock different customization options via the Hero Gallery. If you like what you see and decide to buy Overwatch: Origins Edition, you'll also get to keep whatever progress you made during the weekend. (Wicked!)

To help find out when exactly the free weekend becomes available to you, Blizzard has set up a page on the official Overwatch website that you can use to look up the exact time the free weekend becomes unlocked for people who want to participate in it.

Players on the PlayStation 4 will be able to download the Overwatch free weekend from the PlayStation Store (9GB), while Xbox One users can grab it directly from the Xbox One Store (15GB). Note that players on the Xbox One will need an active Xbox Live Gold membership to participate. PlayStation 4 players will be able to play the free weekend regardless of them having an active PlayStation Plus subscription.

While players in Europe and the Americas will only be able to download this edition of the game after the free weekend starts, players in Japan will be able to start their download slightly before the free weekend starts.

Players participating in the free weekend will have access to all 22 heroes present in the game right now and they will be able to play all game modes (except the ranked mode) on all maps. Your progression (except trophies and achievements) over the weekend will be retained so you won't have to start all over if you decide to buy the game after the free weekend has concluded. Note that on consoles you can only buy Overwatch: Origins Edition, which comes with 5 bonus skins and costs $60.

I've been playing games since I was just barely able to walk so I might as well write about them.
