Nintendo Switch Has Sold 139.36 Million Units, Super Mario Bros. Wonder Sold 11.96 Million Copies

Nintendo has announced its financial results. The Switch has sold 139.36 million units, while Super Mario Bros. Wonder has shipped 11.96 million units.

Today Nintendo announced its financial results for the first nine months of the fiscal year, related to the period between April 2023 and December 2023, including an update on Nintendo Switch unit sales.

According to the documents provided by the company, we learn that the Switch has shipped 139.36 million units as of December 31, 2023. 

This means that 6.9 million units of Nintendo's hybrid console have been shipped during the holiday quarter.

On top of the hardware sales, we learn that 1,200.10 million units of Nintendo Switch software have been shipped since the release of the console. 

Sony will release its financial results next week, so we have to wait a little longer to know which among the Switch of the PS5 topped the Holiday quarter.

We also get to take a look at Nintendo's financial results. Sales were 1,394,796 million yen, up 7.7% year-on-year. Operating profit was 464,410 million yen, up 13.1% year-on-year. 

The outlook for the full fiscal year has been changed slightly from one announced in May and confirmed in November for console units. Nintendo expects to ship 15.5 million Switch consoles (up from 15 million) during the year. If that goal is achieved, the console will have shipped 141.12 million units by March 31, 2024.

The outlook for software unit sales has also been changed and it's now at 190 million units, up from 185 million units.

Speaking of the financial forecast for the full fiscal year, that too has been increased, from 1,580,000 million yen to 1,630,000 million yen (a 3.2% increase)  in sales and from 500,000 million yen to 510,000 million yen in operating profit (a 2.0% increase). 

Speaking of software sales of games released in the latest quarter, we learn that Super Mario Bros. Wonder has shipped to retailers 11.96 million copies and sold through to customers an estimated 10.70 million units. Super Mario RPG has shipped 3.14 million units.

More updated data for games released in previous quarters reveals that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is now at  20.28 million units shipped. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe shipped 6.79 million units during this fiscal year (passing 60 million units cumulatively. It's now at 60.58 million units). Pikmin 4 is at 3.33 million units.
