Mario & Luigi is a stellar series in the eyes of many with its action-RPG gameplay, humorous writing, and lovely worlds to explore. But if you missed out on Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga or played it long ago, Nintendo announced during its 2017 Treehouse live stream that the 2003 Game Boy Advance title is not only being remastered, but will also be accompanied with an additional story mode titled Bowser's Minions.

With new 3D lighting, touched-up graphics, and an overhauled user interface and maps (which you can place pins on now), now you can take on the fury of Fawful once again and help restore Peach's voice alongside arch-nemesis Bowser. You'll notice that the trailer glosses over the Bowser's Minions mode without any explanation, but thankfully, the hosts for Nintendo Treehouse spent half an hour not only showing the remastering in action, but also how this side story will play out.

While players know about Bowser's whereabouts during the events of the main game, they were left to wonder about what happened to all of his lackeys when the Koopa Crusier crashed. What were they up? You assume control of Captain Koopa as he leads squads of his own kind, Koopa Troopas, Shy Guys, and others to find their leader. Instead of having a more active role in combat, players create team units with varying combat specialties involving range, melee, and more. After fortifying your team with Beans and certain abilities to bolster or change stats, you take part in battles that automatically unfold before your eyes. Your goal is to remain behind lines and only get involved if you're the last one standing. Coins can replenish with won battles that will help if things aren't in your favor, but you should be careful using these only when you need them most.

Last but not least, amiibo figures of a standard Koopa and Goomba will be released and compatible with the game alongside the Boo amiibo. None of their functions in relation to either the main game or side mode were disclosed during the presentation, which you can watch below.
