Mages has announced that a brand new game of the legendary visual novel series Memories Off will be released in 2024, and this time around it's not a drill.
While the series received many spin-offs and related games like the SINce Memories: Under the Starry Sky launched in 2021, this will be a brand-new mainline title created to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the franchise.
The first Memories Off was released for the original PlayStation on September 30, 1999, so it just celebrated its 24th anniversary last week.
The new game is titled Memories Off: Not Always True and the Japanese title is wordplay indicating two people, duality, opposites, contrasts, and various possibilities. It'll also mark the beginning of a new story.
What's even more notable is the staff that will work on Memories Off: Not Always True. The story will be written by Naotaka Hayashi, who worked on the 4th and 5th games of the series and also wrote the ultra-popular Steins;Gate.
The character design returns to the origins with Mutsumi Sasaki, who worked on the first two games on top of the Chaos sub-series of the Science-Adventure franchise.
Lastly, the music will be composed by Takeshi Abo, who worked on many games of the series, and plenty from the Science Adventure franchise as well, including Steins;Gate.
At the moment, we don't have a specific release date for Memories Off: Not Always True (albeit around September 30, 2024, is likely a good bet) and we don't even know the platforms. The genre will, of course, be romance visual novel.
We also don't know if the game will ever be localized in English, but the fact that it's a brand-new story could facilitate that. Spike Chunsoft has been localizing many Mages visual novels, so we can certainly hold some hope.
