The Witcher Blood and Wine

Witcher 3 Blood and WineIt's been a while since CD Project RED released the first expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. This expansion went wall above and beyond what most of us expect out of a DLC and left many of us, yours truly included, impatiently awaiting the second expansion. This expansion, titled Blood and Wine, sends us to a completely new area with new quests, enemies and stories in a package that is reportedly equal in size to The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. We finally get some concrete information from the developers themselves, courtesy of an interview with a German games website. Thanks to Reddit user Pawel95 for translating the most important bits from that interview.

The Witcher Blood and Wine (2)First off, the size of the new area Blood and Wine is set in will be as large as all the Skellige islands, a rather large collection of islands inhabited by a proud warrior race of Vikings, combined. This new area will feature some graphical updates as well, with the devs mentioning grass textures specifically. Players will also be able to collect new cards for a completely new deck themed after the Skellige islands with new card types and a new leader.

At the time of writing, CDPR haven't decided on a specific release date yet, but the expansion should be out before the E3 in June. This might be because they want to use their time at E3 to promote their upcoming games.

The Witcher Blood and Wine (1)Furthermore, the developers stated that there are no plans to remaster the first 2 games in the franchise, nor are they planning on releasing a bundle that includes all 3 games citing the first 2 games' prices being very low during sales as a reason why. However, they might consider releasing a game of the year version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt that includes all the patches and DLC in one package.

The Blood and Wine expansion will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. You can read our review of the first expansion Hearts of Stone here.

Are you looking forward to the expansion?

I've been playing games since I was just barely able to walk so I might as well write about them.
