Microsoft Flight Simulator MD11

Today third-party developers shared new images and news about upcoming Microsoft Flight Simulator add-ons, on top of releasing a new airport.

We start with the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 by TFDi Design. CEO Collin Biedenkapp appeared in today's episode of the Closed Traffic podcast and shared new images of the aircraft in Microsoft Flight Simulator

We get to see the flight deck, the cabin, and a few of the avionics screens. Do keep in mind that the textures look shiny, but that's just because they're work-in-progress and it'll be addressed as development continues. The images with the screen lack the flight deck textures, which is why the frames appear pink.

The aircraft is planned for a September 2023 release and it'll cost $70 for the base package (you'll get to choose between passenger or freight), plus $10 for the other version, and $5 for the Extended Simulation Package.

Next, Orbx announced Bern Airport developed by indie creator Massimiliano Addante. While it serves the capital of Switzerland, it's actually a rather small airport with only a handful of seasonal scheduled flights and mostly focuses on general aviation, business, and rescue operations.

The airport is coming soon with the following features:

  • Detailed modeling throughout
  • Custom ortho/projected mesh
  • Static helicopters and GA aircraft
  • Crisp 4k & 2k textures with PBR

Drzewiecki Design released new screenshots of its upcoming Tallinn Airport (EETN) serving the capital of Estonia. The airport doesn't have a release date just yet. Incidentally, we also get to see a new static model for the Saab 340. Of course, it'll be optional.

More screenshots came from Impulse Simulations focusing on Alice Springs Airport (YBAS) in Australia. The developer hopes to release it soon.

Last, but not least, Borneo Wonder Sceneries released Sandakan Airport (WBKS) in Malaysia. While it's not a massive airport, it's quite scenic and it hosts a number of scheduled domestic flights operated by AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines.

It's currently available on Simmarket for $11.63 plus applicable VAT.

Microsoft Flight Simulator is currently available for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Cloud Gaming, including Game Pass.
