The Marvel's Avengers PS5 and Xbox Series X versions have been delayed until 2021. That's not the only delay, either — the Marvel's Avengers Kate Bishop DLC has also been pushed back past its original October 2020 release date.

Marvel's Avengers has had a rough go ever since its launch in September. While the developers have made efforts to fix the game's issues — most notably with the recent 1.3.3 patch that introduced Tachyon Rift Missions — it has nonetheless shed 50% of its playerbase on Steam.

Despite its best efforts, it seems that Crystal Dynamics has had to push back the launch of the Marvel's Avengers PS5 and Xbox Series X versions until next year. Adding to the disappointment is the announcement of yet another delay — the Marvel's Avengers Kate Bishop DLC is also being pushed back, although it is not being delayed as severely as the next-gen versions of the game.

Why is the Marvel's Avengers PS5 and Xbox Series X Versions Delayed?

The reasons for the Marvel's Avengers PS5 and Xbox Series X delay were explained by the developers in a lengthy news post. In it, Crystal Dynamics concedes that the game has not launched without issues — and that is one of the contributing factors towards this decision.

"Marvel’s Avengers’ launch was not without turbulence, and we recognize that a number of issues detracted from your enjoyment of the game," read the news post from Crystal Dynamics. "This does not align with Crystal Dynamics’ value of craftsmanship, and for that we sincerely apologize.

"We’ve also made the decision to shift our PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S launch to next year to ensure that we give our team the time to deliver a next-gen experience showcasing all that this game is meant to be," the news post continued.

Crystal Dynamics does not explicitly state the reason for the Marvel's Avengers PS5 and Xbox Series X delay, but it's clear that the game's launch problems are a contributing factor to this decision. The developer has made a number of improvements to the game thus far (many of which they detail in the news post), but there is still a lot of work to be done.

"Moving forward, we intend to have a fixed, predictable patching cycle to ensure all new content meets both our and your high standards and has time for extensive internal testing. We know fans are hungry for new content, but delivering a fun experience is our priority."

When is the New Marvel's Avengers PS5 and Xbox Series X Release Date?

Unfortunately, a concrete Marvel's Avengers PS5 and Xbox Series X release date was not provided by Crystal Dynamics. For now, all we know is that the next-gen version of this game has been delayed until 2021.

Why is the Marvel's Avengers Kate Bishop DLC Delayed?

The next-gen console versions aren't the only delay; the upcoming Kate Bishop DLC that was leaked during the beta has also been pushed back, although the wait won't be as severe.

Crystal Dynamics describes it as a "slight delay," pushing back the launch of the Marvel's Avengers Kate Bishop DLC beyond its originally intended launch of October 2020. Although this delay is surely disappointing to fans currently playing the game, it seems that Crystal Dynamics has a lot of interesting content in store.

"Kate’s new Operation will be a must-play for fans wanting to know what’s next in the story!" the news post explained. "In Marvel’s Avengers: Kate Bishop — Taking AIM, Tachyon Rifts become a harbinger of a new threat. As players investigate the source of them, they will pick up on a story that begins shortly after the conclusion of the Reassemble campaign. Then comes Clint (we’ll have more information on him later) and looking into 2021, our biggest Avengers Initiative addition yet will introduce a new Hero, region, and narrative arc."

When is the New Marvel's Avengers Kate Bishop DLC Release Date?

As with the next-gen console launches, no Marvel's Avengers Kate Bishop DLC release date has been specifically mentioned. We do know that it won't be launching in October 2020 and the developers indicate that this shouldn't be a long delay, so we'll likely get this DLC sometime in early November 2020.

Despite these delays, Crystal Dynamics has clearly been making an effort to improve the issues with the game and there's plenty of content for current players to enjoy for now. If you'd like to hop into the game, you can buy Marvel's Avengers via its official website starting at $59.99 or your regional equivalent.
