Today the new voice of Mario in the upcoming platformer Super Mario Bros. Wonder has been announced.

The reveal came from the actor himself, Kevin Afghani, who posted on his personal X (formerly Twitter) account. He also confirmed that Nintendo took the traditional approach of having both Mario and Luigi voiced by the same actor.

Incredibly proud to have voiced Mario and Luigi in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Thanks to Nintendo for inviting me into the Flower Kingdom!

Following the retirement of beloved actor Charles Martinet as the official voice of Mario and his new role as brand ambassador, many expected the role to be taken over by Chris Pratt, who played the famous plumber in the super-successful theatrical movie released earlier this year.

Yet, Nintendo decided to surprise the fans with the voice of Afghani, who previously played Arnold in Genshin Impact and Raditz in the fan-made Dragon Ball R&R. It'll certainly be interesting to witness his performance in this relevant and beloved role.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder will be released exclusively for Nintendo Switch in just a few days, on October 20. If you'd like to see and read more, you can check out our extensive article about the latest dedicated Nintendo Direct.

On top of that, you should definitely read our hands-on preview of the game. Our Andrew Otton mentioned that he had an "absolute blast playing Super Mario Bros. Wonder." He also described it as "one of those games, which Mario is very good at, where it’s hard not to walk away smiling."

It's worth mentioning that the recent general Nintendo Direct also had plenty of reveals for fans of the Super Mario franchise, including the first extensive look at Princess Peach: Showtime!, a Switch release of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, and more.
