Nexon has announced that they would be closing down the global services for Maplestory 2 on May 27th, 2020. It has been less than two years since the game was first launched in western markets, which was on October 4th, 2018.

Here are the reasons given for Maplestory 2's closing:

We are forever grateful for your patience and dedication to MapleStory 2 as we tried to rework the game starting with Project New Leaf, but ultimately we’ve decided that we will not be able to provide the type of service that would live up to your expectations. We took a hard look at the current state of the game and its future roadmap, and sadly reached the conclusion that it would be difficult to maintain long-term continuation of the game while remaining true to what made MapleStory 2 your MapleStory 2.

As of yesterday, Nexon has disabled the ability to purchase Blue Merets and Meso Tokens. Nexon will still support Maplestory 2 over the next couple of months, although yesterday's update was it's last. For those who are interested in Maplestory 2's events over its last few months, be sure to click here.

Nexon has also stated that refunds for qualifying purchases will be processed. These purchases are for those either made through their website or through their Nexon Launcher between December 11, 2019 at 12:00 AM PST and March 18, 2020 8:00 AM PDT "will be refunded the full price in NX." Players will be refunded to the same Credit or Prepaid that was used to make the original purchase. For those who use Steam to play the game and buy in-game items and goodies, Steam's refund policy is here and those with questions should contact Steam Support.
