Mad Catz Unveils $300 Transforming Controller

Third party gaming accessory giant Mad Catz showed off a fancy new controller at CES 2015, and it costs $300.

For three Benjamins, buyers will be get The L.Y.N.X., a controller that shape shifts into several different forms, and connects with PC and Android phones/tablets via Bluetooth..

L.Y.N.X. comes with a number of accessories and features. The controller L.Y.N.X. chassis folds for easy storage and travel. The body  can split into three separate pieces. It also features "mouse-like" control via  an OFN Sensor. L.Y.N.X. also features two inner handles for extra grip and volume. A full QWERTY keyboard layout comes from its keyboard module. The keyboard module clots into theL.Y.N.X. handheld. The full keyboard could be used for in-game messaging and web surfing.

A smart phone clip comes included to mount your phone into the center for gaming.  An included tablet frame also performs the same functionality for tablets, turning the whole package into something similar looking to the Razor Edge Pro or a Wii U gamepad. The tablet frame doubles as a stand. The L.Y.N.X. comes with a travel pouch to  protect the accessory during trips.

L.Y.N.X.is bundled with Mad Catz "PlayBig" cable setup that displays your phone or tablet on your big screen, letting you play Android games on the TV, or browse Facebook in 4K I suppose. The L.Y.N.X. controller also comes with a built-in microphone. The microphone can be used to take calls from the couch, (useful if players are using the PlayBig feature and their phone is currently on the other side of the room.) Another use could be looking up guides or tips for the game you're playing; Pausing the game and voice searching Google.

 

The L.Y.N.X. works only with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or higher. The L.Y.N.X. functions for Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1. The L.Y.N.X. controllers is supported for Smart Devices by Samsung, HTC, Sony, and most other Android devices.
