Today Sega released a new gallery of screenshots and details about the upcoming mainline Yakuza game Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.
The new assets focus on some of the activities that you can enjoy in the game, with a particular spotlight on the Dondoko Island feature.
If you're not familiar with it, it's basically a slow life/island simulator minigame that you could easily compare with Animal Crossing, only, it's within a Like a Dragon game. It was originally revealed in October.
After saving a turtle on Aloha Beach, Ichiban Kasuga is invited to visit a small island called Dondoko Island. It used to be a popular resort with many guests, but it's now in disrepair and used as an illegal dumpster, so much that it's nicknamed "the island at the bottom."
This is mostly due to the action of Clean Pirate, a company that has been dumping garbage illegally on the island and harrassed its inhabitants to prevent them from fighting back.
Ichiban is inspired by the resilience of the locals, who are still trying to protect the island and decides to rebuild it into the five-star resort they dream of.
In order to achieve that goal, he'll cooperate with the mascot Gachapin and Mook (Granblue Fantasy fans will likely be familiar with these two popular Japanese mascots) who can provide information and liven up the island with their broadcasts.
We also meet Matayoshi, the owner of the island, who is about to give up but decides to continue trying to restore its status after meeting Ichiban. He also runs Matayoshiya, a store that sells furniture and local products.
Gachapin and Mukku certainly aren't the only guest stars on Dondoko Island. Meet Saya and Yui, the two staffers at Dondoko Farm where you can enjoy farming, gathering, and financing services. They also work as weather forecasters every early morning.
Many of you won't likely need me to tell you that they have the likeness of Saya Hiyama and Yui Komaki from the popular Japanese channel Weathernews LiVE
Ichiban will also be able to craft his own decorations for the islands by using resources gathered by recycling trash, cutting trees, and harvesting rocks. The more you craft, the more craftable items you'll unlock. You can make plenty of different things including furniture, vehicles, and even a whole cabaret club.
On top of crafting, you can also purchase ground styles and fences to decorate your island however you like and make visitors happy.
As the island becomes popular, more and more guests will come to stay, making it lively. These include familiar characters from the series. Each guest will have different tastes that will influence their satisfaction and the money you can earn from their visit.
You can also fight against bands of Clean Pirates and earn the island's currency, which lets you unlock new areas. Battles against them are actually fully action-oriented and not turn-based, as Ichiban fights with his beloved baseball bat.
We also take a look at the Crazy Delivery minigame, which is basically inspired by Crazy Taxi and has Ichiban deliver food on the streets of Honolulu.
Lastly, we learn about the matching app created by the fortune teller Machiko. While he's initially hesitant, Ichiban starts using the app believing that it'll help him hone his gentlemanly behavior and charm.
You can freely create his profile and chat with prospective dates. If your replies and stamps are liked, you'll be invited on a date which will help you boost Ichiban's interpersonal skills.
