NIS America has announced the Western release date for the JRPG The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak.

The game, which was previously announced to be launching sometime before September, is landing on Western shores across PC and consoles on July 5th. It's the start of a brand new arc, known as the Calvard arc, within the Trails sub-series.

While this game takes place in the same world as previous Trails titles, it's set in a completely different place and features a brand new cast of characters, so you likely won't need to have played previous Trails games to understand what's going on.

The first installment in the Calvard arc of the Trails series is arriving in the West later this year.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak follows Van Arkride, a "spriggan" (which, in this universe, is a sort of detective-bounty hunter hybrid) tasked with foiling a shadowy cabal's plot to "bring chaos to the nation".

The game features an intriguing hybrid combat style that allows you to switch between real-time and turn-based combat, although boss fights will always be conducted in turn-based mode.

You'll also be able to explore the land of Calvard, speak with its inhabitants, and complete their requests. In other words, if you're a fan of the Trails series, you'll almost certainly enjoy this one as well.

You can check out NIS America's The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak release date trailer right here. It gives a nice little bit of flavor regarding the game's story and tone.

Trails through Daybreak follows on from games like the Trails of Cold Steel sub-sub-series (yes, you read that right), as well as The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails and The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie.

Events and characters from Trails games are often referenced across other arcs in the sub-series, but you shouldn't need too much prior knowledge to enjoy Trails through Daybreak. Here's hoping the sequel comes West sometime soon as well.

You'll be able to check out The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak when it launches on PC, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch on July 5th. If all of this Trails talk is getting confusing, you can check out our guide on how to get into the series here.
