Riot has released the League of Legends Season 2024 cinematic, and it stars some of the game's most iconic champions.

Just a couple of days after the release of the Valorant Episode 8 cinematic, the League season intro kicks off with Freljord barbarian Tryndamere, who's fallen in battle against his foes.

We then cut to sisters Kayle and Morgana doing battle with the Darkin Aatrox, upon which Morgana flexes her magical muscle by binding him in chains as Kayle blasts him with righteous fire.

Aatrox is looking pretty fearsome in the new League of Legends cinematic.

The action then shifts to a village seemingly beset by bandits, as an elderly man serves as the village's last line of defense.

He battles the bandits using a staff, and when one of them knocks his hat from his head, we realize the man is an older version of the wind ronin Yasuo. We get to see him firing off a Wind Wall and a Steel Tempest as he dispatches his opponents.

After Yasuo's fight with the bandits, we cut back to the Freljord forest in which Tryndamere found himself dying at the beginning of the cinematic.

As Tryndamere faces down death, he's confronted by Kindred, the League of Legends universe's psychopomp.

Of course, if you've played League, you know Tryndamere is literally too angry to die, so he "pops Undying Rage" and decides to fight Kindred instead in a battle that looks more like a dream sequence than a real fight.

Before long, he's brought back to reality as Ashe emerges from the trees, firing frost arrows at the enemies he's been facing all along. The appearance of Ashe calms Tryndamere down, and the cinematic concludes.

All told, it's a pretty great cinematic, and it's lots of fun to watch if you're a fan of League lore, even if it doesn't have much in the way of dialogue.

The cinematic kicks off a season that already has plenty of content in the wings; Arcane's Ambessa will join League as a champion this year, along with the adorable dragon Smolder and an as-yet-unnamed Vastayan solo laner.

You can download and play League of Legends for free right now on PC.
