Riot Games revealed a new champion for its aging but popular MOBA game League of Legends, the paint mage Hwei.
Hwei is a mid-lane character who translates his artistic ideas into paint and then into power, focusing on damage and support.
Interestingly, he's designed as a high skill ceiling champion intended to provide veteran players with a challenge to sink their teeth into.
Since Hwei has a lot of abilities designed to fit different scenarios, that creates a higher level of challenge compared to other champions, and while he can be very powerful, he's also limited by the fact that the players need to pick and choose between his spells.
As you may imagine, he's also a glass cannon and requires very careful mana management to be played successfully.
On the other hand, he's at his best when fighting within a team, with zoning utility skills and group support abilities that can help him hold the line and destroy the enemy's front. Of course, that's as long as he's kept protected.
To introduce Hwei, Riot released a new trailer including both cinematics and gameplay. You can watch him in action below.
Incidentally, we also get a gameplay teaser trailer for season 2024. It appears to tease a rather deep rework of the Summoners Rift map among other things.
This includes changes to the lanes and environments, on top of new monsters and new ways to traverse the map.
League of Legends is currently available exclusively for PC.
If you'd like to see more about the game, you can check out the previously released champion Briar.
Riot has been working on expanding the universe of League of Legends through a variety of games, like Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story and the fighting game codenamed Project L.
