Today marks the end of an era, as Microsoft just shared the very last batch of Xbox Games With Gold that will be distributed in August.
Subscribers will get Inertial Drift from Pqube and Blue Fire from Graffiti Games. Both games will be made available between August 1 and August 31, and will mark the end of the Xbox Live Gold subscription service.
Here's how they're officially described if you're not familiar with them.
Blue Fire
Evil forces have taken over the world of Penumbra. They need a warrior of light and darkness! Embark on a journey to explore temples filled with 3D platforming challenges, battle wild enemies, and go on side quests. Master the art of movement as you face increasingly challenging Void Puzzles and unlock the secrets that will save the day.
Inertial Drift
Can you master the perfect drift? Drive through a 90s retro future in this arcade racing game that leverages a unique handling model and twin-stick drift mechanices. Choose from 16 unique cars across 20 wild tracks to tear through the neon streets. Rev up your skills in single-player story move and then prove you’re the best in multiplayer.
Starting on September 2, Xbox Live Gold will go the way of the dodo, replaced by Xbox Game Pass Core, which will include over 25 games from Game Pass and also enable online multiplayer. Current subscribers will be transitioned to the new service automatically and at no additional cost.
The Games With Gold service was announced all the way back at E3 2013, and at the time it offered two games a month for Xbox 360. The service started with Assassin's Creed 2 and Halo 3, with Fable 3 offered as a bonus.
The service has offered Xbox gamers over ten years of games across three generations. While it ended up being overtaken by Xbox Game Pass toward the end of its long history, resulting in an arguable decline in the value of the offering, it will be remembered fondly as a staple of console gaming by Microsoft.
